Consumer is back
Also hundreds of free startup ideas, stories from a Silicon Valley OG, and a new Porter mix <3.
If you’re new here: Hi, I’m Ryan Hoover, founder of Product Hunt and early-stage investor at Weekend Fund. I also helped write Hooked and occasionally publish essays. This newsletter highlights my latest experiments, essays, and curiosities. If someone forwarded this to you, subscribe along with 25k+ others here. :)
1. Startups in consumer gen AI are outpacing enterprise gen AI in revenue, according to a16z. My theory: Big-budget enterprise is often slower to adopt new tech. We’ll see this flip next year.

2. I’ve been experimenting with peptides for a few years. I normally get them prescribed by a doctor at a compounding pharmacy he trusts, but it’s honestly much easier to buy them on sites like Peptide Science. The problem: You gotta trust you’re getting high-quality, unadulterated peptides and results can vary by retailer. My buddy recently told me about Finnrick, a site that tests and reports quality of these products.
3. I’m working on a new multiplayer project. I was recently asked: “How will you know if it’s working?” My reply: “If I keep using it.” If you’re building for yourself initially, the qualitative is more important than the quantitative.
4. I’m a fan of Kubera, the financial and net worth tracker. They just released a leaderboard of stocks, funds, crypto, and other assets held by their users, anonymized of course.

5. Chris Paik argues that software is following media’s evolution. It’s easier than ever to write code. The “dam has broken.”
6. Ron Conway is the Internet Archive of Silicon Valley stories. I enjoyed this Napster backstory on Jessica Livingston and Carolynn Levy’s podcast. Side note: Shout out to Ron, Brian Pokorny, Abe Dawson, and the SV Angel team for being the first investors in Product Hunt.
7. Queue this mix for your next work session. And really enjoy mark 1:07:35.
8. OMG, Porter. He doesn’t miss. Listen. 【=◈︿◈=】
9. And another mix by Marsh. He’s living the dream.

10. More startup data and analysis: Mary Meeker and the BOND team just released their report on AI trends. It’s long. 340 pages.
11. Vedika, my teammate at Weekend Fund, started a new newsletter. Subscribe to Builds & Breakthroughs to follow along and learn how founders are using new tech to build something that wasn’t possible until now.
12. My buddy Greg just launched Ideabrowser. Take a gander if you’re looking for your next startup idea. And here’s one of my ideas (you get what you pay for).
13. I hope people aren’t tired of our Weekend Fund experiments. I just shared another on Twitter for fund managers that need to fill missing capital calls.
14. Spotted in Prod highlights the best designed iOS apps. I’ve been following it for a minute. Raffi launched it today.
